Now in its third year, A Taste of Home is a chefs’ tasting and culinary-themed benefit held in the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe. Using the Bookstore Cafe’s branding as a starting point with a dash of culinary design inspiration, I created a web and print campaign to look as delicious as the event.

I provided freelance art directon for the January 2012 issue of Dispatch Magazine, a music and culture magazine based out of Portland, Maine. I created comps for the cover of the magazine and provided art direction on the interior.

Work created as part of an Information Design class I took at the School of Visual Arts in 2011. I took the opportunity of working on self-directed pieces to try to stretch my aesthetic sensibility and experiment with different styles, as well as copywriting and doing research on the topics which we picked ourselves.

As part of Housing Works rebranding in 2010, I led development of brand identity for the Bookstore Cafe. Although there was a wonderful old identity, it didn’t fit in with Housing Works’ branding as a whole.

Beginning with the new Housing Works Bookstore Cafe logo & typography, I presented color studies and mood boards to capture the essence of this unique downtown institution. Using custom ‘word patterns’, I created a range of print and digital collateral: from merchandise such as mugs, totes and tees, to customizable sign templates and monthly event listing postcards, to the building’s facade and semi-permanent signage & wayfinding system.

Brooklyn Based is a weekly e-mail newsletter and associated blog that  highlights local events and culture in Kings County. From 2010 to 2011, I had the opportunity to work on several freelance projects for events they produced and a few icons for their site.

Housing Works’ largest annual benefit, Design on a Dime raises much-needed funds for our supportive housing program. Together Housing Works partners with interior designers who create unique room vignettes using donated home goods and furnishings. For the 2011 benefit, I created design collateral for the entire event, from the invitation to on-site signage, tee-shirts to event programs.

Founded in 1976, Dieu Donné is a non-profit artist workspace dedicated to the creation, promotion and preservation of contemporary art in the hand papermaking process. Since 2009, I have designed their annual benefit catalogs, and artists’ monographs for E.V. Day, Ursula Von Rydingsvard, Jim Hodges, and Michele Oka Doner. Dieu Donné’s brand identity was developed by Project Projects.

As a member of Redken’s in-house Creative Department from 2007 until 2009, I had the opportunity to design print and digital collateral for an internationally recognized beauty brand. Under Creative Director Robert Bergman, my team collaborated with the Marketing and Purchasing departments in producing projects for the domestic market, and helped to form and uphold brand standards implemented globally. Additionally, I had worked with an array of outside photographers, retouchers and printers.

In the summer of 2007, a variety of community organizations in the Lower East Side and Chinatown banded together to form O.U.R. Waterfront Coalition. The Coalition’s goal was to make sure that the residents of the local community, many of whom are immigrants, were involved in the development and planning of the East River Waterfront. Using a comprehensive process involving 800 surveys, three visioning sessions, a town hall meeting, and business plan authored by The Pratt Center for Community Development, O.U.R. Waterfront created the People’s Plan, which represents local residents’ vision of what a community-oriented, community-driven development of the East River waterfront would look like. I was approached about creating a trilingual campaign to promote the launch of the People’s Plan. A series of posters, stickers, buttons, and postcards, the materials promote awareness and encourage support for the People’s Plan among the residents of the Lower East Side and Chinatown. The creative challenges of working with a large coalition of nonprofits and community organizations, combined with a nonexistent budget and three distinct languages, provided fun challenge. The goal of the campaign was to be bright and eye-catching, while also prompting a personal connection with the idea of a waterfront for all members of the community.
